Dario and Romano Marcato started their furniture business in a garage, a few metres from their home, in Cadoneghe, at the weekends. It took them hours to make a small table. Today, it takes them fifty seconds to shape the continuous sinuous line of their famous LEM stool.

They still love the most, technology, a knowledge of materials, research and determination to be used for the creation of LaPalma furniture. Before becoming the company Lapalma, they worked for NASA, making transistor capsules, a few millimetres of total precision, using a gauge instead of a tape measure.

It shows that they are looking for innovative ideas, new markets and fresh strategies, even when, in the early 1990s, Lapalma decided to focus on seating and ten years later and after achieving many international awards they transformed their collections into a system of versatile minimalist products, ideal for all environments.

In the early 1980s, LaPalma moved from the garage to a disused distillery.
To make their products and continuously improve, Lapalma chose state-of-the-art machinery and customised it based on their experience. To make furniture and implement projects, even the most difficult ones created by amazing designers, they have been focused on automation.

Nevertheless, they wanted manual craftsmanship to go hand-in-hand with technology: a complex assembly phase, a step of sandpapering with different grain sizes to ensure perfect details, and the smoothing of fabrics
.
In 2010, they inaugurated a 14500m2 headquarters with fluid, bright and “green” spaces, and solar energy. Each product, with its intricate complexity, is created here and then distributed to 81 countries. The most well kown design of Lapalma is the LEM stool, but the modern looks they showed in the early 70s, still are recognizable in all other designs of LaPalma.

You just have to take al look at these low aluminium framed stools, with beautiful curved wenge plywood seats and you recognize the marked stools as to be La Palma.
