In 1953, Artifort with the Penguin, designed by Theo Ruth, took the road of innovative design. The iconic Penguin armchair consists of just two separate basic elements that snap together with a forked end. Gravity does the rest! With its striking armrests, the designer armchair is reminiscent of a penguin.

In 1936, Theo Ruth joined Artifort as a furniture maker. Only 3 years later he led the development team that implemented the designs of famous designers such as Pierre Paulin and Geoffrey D. Harcourt. He maintained this position until his death in 1971. With Ruth’s Penguin (1953) and Congo chair (1952), Artifort took the path of innovative design and shaped some timeless objects. This penguin has been re-upholstered in a fabric that lasts for decades and some artwork stiching.
