The history of Dutch rattan design begins in the Dutch town of Noordwolde. From 1919 several rattan factories settled there. The two best known of these are Rohé and Jonkers.
Rohé was one of the largest employers in the Dutch county Friesland. In addition to rattan furniture, the factory produced cribs and wooden furniture.
The Dutch brand became big due to the immense popularity of rattan after the Second World War. All furniture from the post-war period was made in Rohe’s own factory. A real Dutch product was made here.
In the 1990s, the company launched collections by, among others, Jan des Bouvrie, Roderick Vos and Gerard van der Berg. Unfortunately, Rohé had to close its doors in 1997. Nowadays the items are still popular in the vintage and design market.
