70s Karel Boonzaaijer & Pierre Mazairac ‘Cirkel-1’ dining chair for Metaform set/4

Pierre Mazairac has become known nationally and internationally with the many designs that he developed at the furniture factory Pastoe in the period 1972 to 1980 and from 1980 to 1992 at his own studio Mazairac and Boonzaaijer & partners.

In the Netherlands, in the seventies and eighties, Pierre Mazairac, together with Karel Boonzaaijer and Arnold Merckx, formed “the hard core of the Dutch designers of functional seating furniture”. Through his furniture designs he placed Dutch design in the spotlights in the seventies and eighties.

Mazairac was specialist in industrial design with a focus on furniture design and had a separate component that focused on architecture. Clients were important national and international manufacturers, including Pastoe, Hennie de Jong, Leolux, Metaform, Castelijn, Arco, Agape and Ikea. His collaboration within the design agency ended in 1995 when he moved to Switzerland and aimed his focus on leisture design for restaurants, hotels etc.
