90s design Gaetano Pesce art side table for Corsi Design

Gaetano Pesce was born in Italy in 1939 and studied architecture at the University of Venice. After graduating in 1965, he moved between London, Padova, Helsinki, and Paris, before settling in New York in 1980. From the beginning, Pesce’s practice has straddled the boundaries between art, design, urban planning, and architecture, always using his work as a vehicle to communicate his perspective on the world today.
With resin, foam, and plastics as his signature materials, Pesce has designed for companies such as Cassina, B&B Italia, and Vitra.

Corsi Design was born in 2003 after a fortunate encounter between Gaetano Pesce and Andrea Corsi. The designer, sharing the magic formula, entrusted the artisan to create a new range of products in resin. Andrea Corsi starts experimenting with the material, trying to subdue its fluctuating character, paying a meticulous attention to the details, improving the different models and creating an actual line of products. Years of experience, trials, errors, intuitions and discoveries have led to today’s exceptional results. A series of collections in constant evolution, mainly due to the collaboration with internationally acclaimed designers combined with the mastery of the artisan.

In the mid-90’s Gaetano Pesce had the intuition to use the resin, an industrial material, to create art and design pieces. Subsequently Andrea Corsi, improving the techniques and carefully studying the material’s properties, has reached the unique quality which distinguishes all the collections manufactured by Corsi Design.

There are a number of techniques and a variety of resins used according to the different pieces to produce. The use of moulds, coloured pigments, spatula strokes, mixing, pouring, extruding, reach the culmination in the purest gestures, like sculptors, using the resin as if it was clay.

In this manner this small side table in hard resin has been designed by Gaetano Pesce in 1995 for the Fish Design collection. This specific piece is almost new, only manufactured as number 17 in 2020, by the official 1995 design.
