Born in Sydney in 1963, Marc Newson spent much of his childhood travelling in Europe and Asia with his mother, before returning home to study jewelry and sculpture at the Sydney College of the Arts. Prior to graduating in 1984, he had already turned his skills toward furniture, and in 1986, was awarded a grant from the Australian Crafts Council to stage his first exhibition, which featured the now iconic Lockheed Lounge.

Over the years, Newson has lived and worked in Tokyo, Paris, and London, where his studio is now based. Working across a wide range of disciplines, he has designed everything from chairs and household objects to bicycles, concepts cars, and airplane interiors. Some of his most famous designs include the Orgone Chair, the Embryo Chair, and the Gluon Chair. He has produced limited editions for Galerie Kreo and Gagosian Gallery, and his vintage work continues to break auction records around the world.

The impressive ‘Gluon’ chair has a lacquered steel and firm frame with rounded feet, ever more rare than the well known swivel based variant. The barrel supporting the seat rises from here and is made of silver tinted polyurethane with red fabric trim. This fauteuil has the beautiful rounded frame with firm and comfortable seating. The void in the center acts as an air cushion to make it comfortable to sit on; the hole wasn’t just about styling, but the function of the chair.

This Gluon fauteuil Comes with the typical Marc Newson forms, futuristic and coming from another world. We also have a three seat sofa in the same material and colors available.
