Mario Bellini ‘gli scacchi’ chess coffee tables for B&B Italia set/4

Italian architect Mario Bellini is well known for creating powerful, thoughtful and creative pieces of design. The Gli Chess series works both as modular tables or seating. The versitility in interconnectivity between the differing forms places great emphasis one the users own sense of composition and functional requirments. Made from a black Duraplum acrylic shell, they are structurally tought but slightly soft to the touch. All bearing original labels to the underside.
In the 1971’s original design year, Gli Scacchi represented a remarkable technical innovation as they were produced in self skinning polyurethane foam, a solution which was initially used only by the automotive industry and introduced for the first time in furniture. Gli Scacchi is still in the delivery program nowadays but than made of thick leather with visible stitching.
This set contains 4 single pieces ment to combine into 1 table. All in good condition consistent with age and use.
