Poul Henningsen was born in Copenhagen as the son of the famous Danish actress Agnes Henningsen. He never trained as an architect, but studied from 1911 to 1914 at the Frederiksberg Technical School in Denmark, and then between 1914 and 1917 at the Copenhagen Technical College. He started his career in traditional, functionalist architecture, but over the years his interest shifted to lighting, which also earned him the greatest fame. He expanded his field of activity to writing and became a journalist and author. For a short time, at the beginning of the Second World War, he was the chief architect of the Tivoli in Copenhagen. But like many other creative minds, he was forced to flee Denmark during the German occupation. He soon played an important role in the group of Danish artists who had moved to Sweden. Henningsen’s lifelong association with Louis Poulsen began in 1925 and continued until his death.

The PH 5 Classic hanging lamp from the Danish brand Louis Poulsen is a design by Poul Henningsen from 1958. This hanging lamp is the symbol of Danish design. The PH 5 is based on an earlier design by Poul Henningsen from 1926. The PH 5 Classic is the mother of the PH family, which includes the classic pendant lamps PH 5, the PH 50, the PH 3½-3 and the wall lamp PH. 3-2½. The PH 5 Classic consists of three reflective screens: one cone and two smaller colored screens. The light radiates both downwards and indirectly upwards. The PH 5 gets its name from the diameter of the top screen. Design This hanging lamp has a diameter of 50 cm and is 28.5 cm high. The material used is matt coated aluminum.
