60s Galvanitas two-tone S19 chair for Galvanitas set/5
The Galvanitas S19 chair had its origin in the classroom. The S19 has a completely wooden shell based an a metal frame.
The chair was designed and produced by Galvanitas in Oosterhout the Netherlands in the late 1950s and early 1960s. They opted for a design with the typical compass legs. Instead of the usual tubular construction, the designer opted for a frame made of pressed sheet steel. A very solid and at the same time revolutionary design for that time.
The S19 was specially intended for intensive use in public buildings such as schools, institutions and canteens. Galvanitas is (still) known for its quality and reliability. Because the two tone shell is in one piece it is able to move a little, it springs a little, which increases the seating comfort.
This beautifull two-tone set of 5 pieces, is kind of unique. The chairs are in good condition consitent with age and use.
