60s Rob Parry 1st edition ‘Lotus’ fauteuil for Gelderland
Rob Parry (1925) was Dutch designer of industrial design. Gerrit Rietveld was one of his teachers. Characteristic of his style are the elegant lines and the way materials are used.
Parry studied at the Royal Academy of the Visual Arts in The Hague. After graduating, Parry started his own business. Until 1995 he designed interiors, furniture, stands, exhibitions, jewelery, lettering and toys. In addition, he worked for thirty years as a teacher of architectural design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. Various designs by Rob Parry are in the collection of various museums, including the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen in Rotterdam.
Parry designed more than 40 different models of chairs. He designed the Lotus between 1950 and 1952. It is an airy, almost linear design with wooden side panels and a thin metal tube that was characteristic of the time. The great seating comfort was created by the use of springs and webbing.
This original lotus armchair is in original and very good condition consistent with age and use.
