First built for use on submarines in 1944, the Navy Chair has been in continuous production ever since with Emeco. The durable, robust and lightweight design of only 3.2 kg was ideally suited for use on ships. This set of 10 pieces is marked and made of lightweight brushed aluminum.

In 1999 Philippe Starck was one of the first designers to take the Navy chair out of its original context and place it into modern design-focused settings. Emeco and Philippe Starck started to work together in New York. There began a close, lasting and prolific relationship between Emeco and Philippe Starck – a relationship that launched Emeco’s transformation from a U.S. Navy supplier into one of the top design furniture brands.

The Hudson Chair by Philippe Starck, created for the Hudson Hotel NYC, was the first new design for Emeco in more than 50 years. Starck had the Emeco craftsmen learn a new skill – hand polishing. Starck continued designing for Emeco and created the Emeco Stool, Kong Chair, Heritage Stacking Chair, and Icon Chair.

Emeco still makes the navy model, but since 2009 also in plastic, for example. This set of 10 pieces are from the pre Starck decade the 1970s and show a beautiful patina and are all marked in the aluminium.
