Henk van Putten (1936-2019) Henk van Putten was born in Amsterdam, he taught at the Rietveld Academy and later moved to India, where he passed away in 2019.

Less is more’ was the ideal from which Henk van Putten made his constructivist, geometric work. Simplicity, strength, form, well made and an intriguing construction. And yet for him it always remained a battle with contradictory considerations. Presenting a geometric idea in a beautiful way gets in the way of presenting it in an understandable way. Because of this, considerations of ‘beauty’ became less and less important to him. It was precisely the geometric idea, the game with newly discovered proportions, that became more important to Henk.

He often looked for ways to put together the old geometric basic shapes through manipulation and then came up with surprising and interesting new shapes.

This work is named “Strenght”. The size of the work determines the impression it makes on you. This work is 80 cm (!) in size and deserves a prominent place in home or even outdoor because it never gets boring.
