1972 designed by Studio 65 model ‘Bocca’ or ‘Lips’ sofa for Edra Italy, manufactured 1999 The Studio 65 ‘Bocca’ sofa by Gufram is an icon of postmodern furniture design. Studio 65 created this special shaped sofa as an hommage to Salvador Dalí’s sofa from 1930. Dalí attributed the sofa to Mae West whereas Studio 65 attributed it to Marilyn Monroe. This edition is for Edra, and has only been produced for a short period between 1999-2000. In postwar Italy, Studio 65 was founded in 1965 by the architecture students Franco Audrito and Piero Gatti. During that time in Italy, approximately from the 1960s-1980s, innovative and radical design groups were established to oppose the objectivism and dogmatic rationalism of the International Modern Style. Studio 65 used historic and Classic icons to use as their base for design. The use of historic references preceded the use of subjective references of 1980s postmodernists as Robert Venturi in America and Aldo Rossi in Europe. This 1999 Edra sofa is made in red fabric on a metal frame and foam. The Sofa has the clear Lip form and is in good condition consistent with age and use.
