Theo Ruth was born in 1915 in the Netherlands and studied at the Academy of Arts in Maastricht. He quickly became interested in design. In 1936, the young designer joined Artifort and dedicated his work to living room furniture. As a talented designer, he became the director of design in 1939, until his death in 1971. 

Theo Ruth is is responsible for the success of the Artifort brand around the world. During his career, Ruth designed collectable furniture such as the Congo cair (1952) and the Penguin chair (1957). Their design is remarkable: there have been build without screws!

Thank to his job among Artifort, Ruth met famous designers such as Pierre Paulin and Geoffroy Harcourt. He is still one of greatest designers from the 20th Century.

In the 1950s he designed more classic line of chairs and fauteuils for example this comfortable lounge armchair that is beautifully detailed. This set of two identical model 410 chairs is original 1960s chair and are completely new upholstered! The fabric is new. Excellent condition.
